When our TBA issue went to print, there was little information to be found about what to expect from Neighborhood Projects, a group made up of students in PSU's art and social practice masters program. (As of our press date, the only entry on their Google calendar was for something called "Drinking Beer with Friends.") We recently received an email from Eric Steen letting us know that their website has been updated, so head on over and check 'em out. Events include lots of site specific stuff, like a "Daisy Chain" exploration of the neighborhood around Voodoo Doughnut Too:

For a DAISY CHAIN project, a point is found on a map and placed in the center of a circle that defines the distance the artist can walk from the center in approximately 7 minutes. (In this case the center is Voodoo Doughnut Too at NE 15th and Davis Street.)

Sandy takes off on foot not stopping until she meets a stranger within her walk time as described by the circle, she learns a little bit about this person she has just met and her/his relationship to the neighborhood, and then asks him/her to refer her to another person who can be found within the circle on the map, this cycle continues until it doesn't.

There will be a large map marked with the locations of the strangers Sandy met posted at Voodoo Doughnut Too and visitors are invited to mark the map and record their connections to the neighborhood as well

Using a virtual tool to aid physical real time connections Daisy Chain: Voodoo Too makes a complete conceptual circle when the project's artifacts of real time physical interactions are ultimately archived on the web.

There will also be an opening reception for Neighborhood Projects on Friday, Sept 5 from 6-9 pm at the Pancake Clubhouse Historic Township and Activity Destination for the Living Arts (906A NE 24th)
