Opening Tonight: Women without Men

Posted by Alison Hallett on Thu, Sep 9, 2010 at 3:56 PM

A bit lost in the shuffle of TBA's opening night festivities is Shirin Neshat's Women without Men, an Iranian film opening tonight at the NW Film Center. It's a fictionalized account of five women's lives, set in 1953, after Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh was overthrown in a coup organized by British and US forces (laying the groundwork for the Iranian Revolution's rejection of Westernization, as documented in that other great film about being a woman in Iran, Persepolis).

The film runs this weekend and Tuesday—we'll have a review up tomorrow. For tickets, go here.
